AKA SATCOMBw Stufe 3-1

SATCOMBw Stufe 3 ("SatComBw Level 3") is a German military satellite communications program comprising of 2 geostationary orbit satellites, ComSatBw 1B and ComSatBw 2B. The system is designed to ensure secure, protected and high-capacity communications for the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) beyond 2029, as a replacement for ComSatBw 1 and 2. It will satisfy the increasing demand for secure and resilient satellite communications within the Bundeswehr.

The satellites are based on Airbus Defence and Space's Eurostar-Neo platform and will each have a launch mass of approximately 6 metric tonnes. Each satellite has a planned operational lifetime of 15 years, with the possibility of extension to 20 years under contract options.
